Walda George-Waithe
Artist. Designer. Carnival & Creative Practitioner
I am an artist! Sounds very strange hearing myself say that as I have been a businesswoman for so many years but the urge to create has never been far from my fingers and eventually I have been drawn all the way back to it.
My preference is work in 3D, either thread or wire and many times I've also worked with papier mache. Each piece created must generate conversation and evoke thought as this is my way of communicating with society.
Not just a lover of art but also of art artistic expression. This aspect of my life has been portrayed mostly through presentations of Carnival costumes and Easter bonnet parade ensembles since 2007.
My creative spirit has blossomed during the COVID-19 pandemic with the completion of several pieces in a variety of materials but particularly wire and crochet threads.
I have now come happily home to my creative side, even reshaping my business to focus on my artistic and creative abilities.
I have since now had two solo exhibitions at my Studio in Arima, Trinidad and have been part of fifteen group exhibitions in Trinidad, Louisville Kentucky, St Vincent and the Grenadines and Washington D.C.
